Graduate School
Striving to Obtain Further Knowledge

Aiming to Foster Talent

By offering students the opportunity to fully utilize their cutting-edge knowledge of machine engineering, foreign language skills, and engineering design abilities, this program strives to foster the growth of the key industry-leading engineers and researchers of tomorrow, by instilling them with highly applicable and specialized expertise, problem identification/solving abilities, and leadership skills, as they engage in the development of engineering systems utilizing a broad perspective that combines technologies from various engineering fields, thereby enabling them to plan, design, and produce a manufactured good that combines the latest in state of the art technology.

Academic Goals

In addition to acquiring specialized knowledge and technical skills in the discipline of mechanical engineering, students will be educated to help them grow into an engineer/researcher that is capable of the following items.

1 Students will maintain and further develop their fundamental qualities as an engineer, such as their specialized, fundamental academic abilities, communication skills, etc., that they have fostered during their undergraduate studies.
2 Students will apply their creativity that they have developed based on their cutting-edge research and high-level academic activities.
3 Students will be instilled with a global perspective, so that they can contribute to societal advances on both a local and global level, while maintaining high ethical standards.

Past Master’s Thesis Research Themes

  • Texture Control to Achieve High Young’s Modulus Steel Plates
  • Fatigue Strength of Steel Gears Treated Using Water Injection Cavitation Peening
  • Surface Smoothing and Surface Modification of Cemented Carbide by Using Large-Area Electron Beam Irradiation
  • Numerical Analysis of Erythrocyte Aggregation Phenomenon Occurring Within Microvessels
  • CFD Analysis of Cavitation Occurring Within Injector Nozzles Used for Direct Injection Gasoline Engines

Graduate School Advanced Engineering Design

Students are given the opportunity to acquire and be trained in skills that are indispensable for an engineer’s career advancement, such as “presentation-based negotiation skills,” “research and development skills,” and “technical report drafting skills.” During instruction for “presentation-based negotiation skills,” students will receive focused guidance on how to acquire presentation skills that are needed to accurately communicate data, and negotiation skills that are needed to convince listeners to agree with their findings. During instruction for “research and development skills,” students will learn the methods used to specifically practice the creative abilities that are demanded of engineers, and they will undergo training on the process of generating ideas.

Graduate School Seminar on Industrial Technologies

Students will be presented with specific, real-world examples that focus on engineering ethics, as viewed from the perspective of safety, environmental/resource scarcity risk evaluation, thereby giving them an opportunity to reflect on concepts related to engineering ethics. Additionally, corporate researchers and engineers will provide lectures on the latest engineering trends within the realm of mechanical systems engineering, as well as the necessary mindset required to excel in the private sector.

Graduate School Advanced Technical Writing and Presentation

In today’s globalized society, it is demanded that engineers acquire the ability to use academic English to write academic papers/technical reports, and furthermore, it is required that they attain a level of English proficiency that enables them to present and debate using English in an accurate manner, during international conferences and technical negotiations abroad. In this course, students will focus mainly on writing English language academic papers, as they first learn about the basic rules of how to write an English language paper, and later practice writing the individual sections of a paper, while they learn about the key points of academic paper writing, through meticulous proofreading and detailed explanations.
